THE OTHER SIDE

What a coincidence ! This week, I happened to watch two movies; both about the people who set milestone for better world in their own way.

One is Last station(2009) about the last days of Leo Tolstoy , a Russian novelist who had profund impact on mahatma gandhi in his way of life and principles.Other is Creation(2010)  on the days before Charles Darwin published his momentous " On the origin of the species ".

I was wanting to watch " last station" for several months. It got stopped several times for several other reasons. All of the sudden, I watched this week having decided in a minute at random. Thats why I call  it a coincidence to have watched it along with movie "Creation".

Incidentally, I realised that both spoke not about their achievements; their milestones. If it was so , it would have been another documentary. Instead it was about their other side. It was about their attitude; their dilemma; their radical departure with conventions existed then; their disagreement with their wives; yet a thread of love between them; I was surprised to realise that both movies dealt the same subject as said above.

Every aspect in this movie led me into furthur thoughts;  For both, its a dilemma either to go with conventional belief and practices or to say and practise what we believe to be correct. It seems this dilemma that will pervail forever, since change is the only constant.Anyone here was not wrong , they were but speaking from different ages; perspectives; belief. They had genuine reaons to defend their side.

It may seem that family was a big obstacle in carrying their ideas forward, which in later times said to be a big leap in human progress; It may also be said that , alternative views from family provided ample reasons to rethink, reaffirm their theory based on new reasons. I think in  reality, it was a place from where they found solution; solace; strength.
