Learn law in less than 2 Hours !!!!

ego... prejudice.. reluctance to apply mind... chalte attitude... justice can they co exist ????.

Only sometimes, you feel very much satisfied with the time you had just spent. I felt it today. As I reluctantly went on to browse through Hindu supplement issues after the early dinner, I came across 5 movies picked up as by some reader in a column. "12 angry man " was rated 1st and then went on to include terminal, prestige and so on. All of the sudden, some instinct drove me to watch this movie. I really enjoyed it ; went into introspection ; worried for having missed for so long; but can't help.

Being in the field of tax collection and quasi judicial functions, I had to study law. During the classes,we were taught about difference between criminal and civil law. Criminal law is based on the principle that the crime should be proved beyond any reasonable doubt. Whereas for civil law, preponderance of probability is enough.The bed rock of this principle is that "thousands of criminals could go scot free; but not even a single innocent should be punished."

A theory is best understood by the story. This movie teaches me theory of Modern law; Things to be considered when you decide; things that may blur your way to truth; peopl's differing perspective; different people's priorities;

This movie although taken in 1957, is very much relevant today , in the era of trail by media and thus created public opinion putting pressure on even the judgement.
This movie starts with court where the judge concludes by saying that 12 jurors will decide if the accused is guilty or not. The only condition posed is that decision should be uniform, and that decision will reach finality.
The people , 12 in number, strangers to one another and in no way connected to the murder or accused are asked to decide the case based on their judgement after the trial.

This being the backdrop , it offers us within 150 minutes, of various stake involved in judging a person. This movie although taken in 1957, is very much relevant today , in the era of trail by media and thus created public opinion putting pressure on even the judgement. It offers bird's eye view of how different perceive a case and factor considered for judgement. It reflects the people's psychology of  being indifference , neutral to
to take extreme stand on prejudice.

Indifferent people taking sides of majority, A leader who feels satisfied at co- ordinating but has no view of his own, men coming to conclusion based not on facts but on their own prejudice , men who always cared about their joy, business not on the task, .... all these make it as if we are peeping through real room rather than cinema. This is lankmark movie on how a different people comes to some random conclusion when it doesnot matter to them much.

America or India ; 1950s or 2011 man is  always the same !!!!!
